Work and caregiving

Work and caregiving, for the woman everyone leans on

For Black women who are the steady one at work, at home and in the community, and who rarely get a turn to be looked after.

Sessions make room for what you give and what you keep for yourself: the job that asks for more than the pay covers, the family who call first, the church committee, the group chat. Mariah helps you look at what you owe others and what you owe yourself.

What sessions look like

  • You name who and what you are holding

  • Mariah asks what each of them gets from you, and what you get

  • Words to try with the people involved

  • No plan you did not choose

Good to know

What this is, and what it is not

  • Talk therapy

Conversation, with skills to try if you want them. It is not coaching and not a career service.

  • Not an emergency service

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911. Loam does not monitor messages around the clock.

  • Your pace

Mariah sets the pace with you, and you can change it. She does not promise a number of sessions.

Questions

Questions about this work

Is this about being strong?

It is about being able to set that down sometimes. You do not have to be strong in this room.

Can you write a letter for my employer?

Mariah can talk with you about what you need. A letter or a report for work is a separate question, and sometimes a psychologist or doctor is the right person.

How is it paid?

Out of network, with a monthly receipt you can send to your plan, and a limited number of reduced-fee spots.
