FAQ

Questions about Loam

Do you take my insurance?

Loam is out of network with insurance plans. You pay Mariah directly, and you can ask your plan to pay you back with the monthly receipt we send. Loam does not bill Medicare or Medicaid.

What is a superbill, and can I use it?

A superbill is an itemized receipt that you can send to your plan with your claim form, and your plan may pay you back. It carries a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Whether it pays, and how much, is up to your plan.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start, and Loam gives you one in writing. If a bill comes out $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. You can read more at cms.gov/nosurprises.

How do fees work, and when will I know mine?

Your fee depends on the kind of session: a first session, an individual session or a longer one. Mariah gives you yours in writing before your first session, so you know it before you commit to anything. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open at any time; ask for one when you write.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. Health savings and flexible spending cards work for sessions. Your plan's own rules decide what it covers, so check with it first if you are not sure.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Mariah asks what brought you to look for a counselor, explains how she works and the limits of confidentiality, and lets you decide whether it feels like a fit. You do not have to tell your whole story.

How often will we meet, and for how long?

A session is 50 minutes. Most people meet every week or every other week. Mariah sets the pace with you, and you can change it. She does not promise a number of sessions.

Are you licensed where I live?

Mariah is licensed in Georgia. You can meet in person on Cascade Road, or by video if you are in Georgia when we meet. She cannot see clients who are in other states.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. Loam does not monitor messages around the clock, so please do not use the contact form for anything urgent.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you say in session stays private, with limits the law sets: a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or a report the law requires. Mariah explains these at your first session.

Can you see my teenager?

No. Loam is a practice for adult women. Mariah can suggest colleagues who see teenagers, and the rules for a minor's consent depend on Georgia law and the clinician.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. Mariah will talk through any late cancellation with you before there is a charge.

Still have a question?

Write to Mariah and she will answer in writing.
