Who it is for

Who Loam is for

Loam is a counseling practice for Black women. If you are one, you can skip the part where you explain yourself.

Mariah sees women of every age from 18 up, from every part of the city and the state, with every kind of family, faith and work. What you share is not a diagnosis. It is the experience of being a Black woman in a world that asks a lot of you, and a room where that does not need translating.

Loam is for

  • Black women, 18 and over

  • In Atlanta, or anywhere in Georgia by video

  • Of any faith, or none

  • Single, partnered, a mother, a daughter, a caregiver

Fit

Is Loam the right fit?

A short guide, so you can tell in a few minutes. If it is not the right fit, Mariah will help you find one that is.

  • Who comes

    Black women, 18 and over.

  • How we talk

One to one, in plain words, at a pace you set.

  • What we do

    Talk therapy.

  • Where

In person on Cascade Road, or by video if you are in Georgia.

  • Paying

Out of network, with a monthly receipt for reimbursement, and a limited number of reduced-fee spots.

  • When

    Scheduled sessions, Tuesday to Saturday.

Better elsewhere

  • Who comes

Men, couples, teenagers and children: Mariah can suggest colleagues who see them.

  • How we talk

A group, a class or a coaching program: Mariah can suggest places to look.

  • What we do

Medication, testing, or a report for work or court: a psychiatrist or a psychologist handles those.

  • Where

Outside Georgia: Mariah cannot see you by video.

  • Paying

In-network care only, or care through Medicare or Medicaid: Loam does not bill them.

  • When

A crisis: call or text 988, or call 911. Loam is not an emergency service.

In the room

How Mariah works with who you are

  • Culture is part of the work

Mariah asks what your family, faith, neighborhood and work mean to you, and does not assume.

  • You can bring all of it

Tiredness and humor, anger and pride, the things you say at church and the things you do not. None of it needs a filter here.

  • Other help when it fits

If you would rather see someone else, or also need a psychiatrist or a group, Mariah helps you find them.

What clients say about the room

“I did not have to explain why a comment landed the way it did. We got to the point in the first session.”

Janiyah T.

“The room is warm and quiet, and the hour is mine. Nobody rushes me.”

Candi R.

“I liked that the fee was in writing before I came. No surprise, and no awkward talk at the end.”

Loretta W.
